A new procedure will be followed at OLV and throughout the Diocese of RVC regarding the distribution of ashes due to the pandemic. Instead of having the ashes imposed on your forehead in the sign of the cross, the ashes will be sprinkled on the top of your head. This procedure is the way that ashes have been typically distributed in many parts of the world – including
Europe. It’s the way the Pope receives his ashes.

This procedure, while not as dramatic, does put into practice the teaching of Ash Wednesday’s Gospel which calls us to carry out our penance in private. Ministers will be available in the church throughout the day on Ash Wednesday. Packets of ashes for the homebound will be available.

All Catholics who have reached their fourteenth year are bound to abstain entirely from meat
on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. All Catholics between the ages of eighteen and fifty-nine inclusive are also bound to observe the law of fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday

LENTEN PRAYER OPPORTUNITY . . .
Stations of the Cross every Friday at 11:30 am before the noon mass, & at 7:00 pm— with the opportunity for individual confession following the Friday evening stations.
