Important letter from Fr. Tom – May 10, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

Happy Mothers Day!

While the celebration of Mothers Day may have to be more subdued than in the past, the sentiments of love and appreciation remain as strong as ever!

Special prayers and thoughts are extend- ed to mothers and their families who will not be able to see one another today because of visiting restrictions in hospitals, assisted living facilities and even at home. I think the term “social distancing” should be replaced with the term “physical distancing” because we need to remain “social,” even if we can’t be physically close. Social closeness can be achieved by contacting one another, especially the seniors in our families and communities. Call them, facetime them, zoom them, whatever—just stay in contact!

Special prayers also for new mothers, expectant mothers and deceased mothers.

Seminarian Paul Pileggi
Seminarian Paul Pileggi has been with us at OLV since September. He has gotten involved in all aspects of parish life:

  • Teaching in the Faith Formation Program
  • Visiting the School
  • Working in Parish Outreach
  • Serving and Lectoring at Masses and funerals
  • Visiting the sick
  • Entertaining us in the rectory
  • And most recently, recording and uploading our Masses to YouTube and Facebook!
  • And so much more …….

Paul’s Pastoral Year assignment at OLV is ending this weekend. We certainly wish him well and hope that he knows he is always welcome back at OLV!

As I wrote in Paul’s end of the year evaluation:
“Paul is an excellent candidate for diocesan priesthood. He brings enthusiasm and zeal to the ministry. His sincerity and devotion are among his strongest gifts. It would be a pleasure to serve with him someday.”

First Communion Dates
The decision has been made to reschedule this Spring’s First Holy Communion dates until September. The Masses will be held on Saturdays, September 12, 19 & 26. I apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment, but I know you understand the necessity of the postponement.

Mrs. Fuchs and Mrs. Augello will be in contact with the parents of the second graders regarding rehearsals and other details.

Summer Programs
The decision has been made to cancel the Cardboard Box Players performances this summer, as well as our annual Vacation Bible School. It would be too difficult to manage the protocols for safe distancing that will be in place.

These are two great summer programs that our parish has been able to offer, and I am sorry that we will be unable to do so this year. With God’s help, they will return in 2021!

35th Anniversary of Ordination
Monday, May 11th will be my 35th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. It has been a grace and a privilege to serve as a priest. The one thing I ask of you is to be remembered in your prayers!

Praised be the name of Jesus Christ now and forever!

Fr. Tom
